Alison Hall, Executive Director of Pittsburgh Action Against Rape, is just one of many amazing clients that we have the opportunity to work with each week here at Z Brand Group.
In this new feature, Coffee With A Client, we get to know them a little better and share their stories. Alison has been at Pittsburgh Action Against Rape for over 12 years, and became its Executive Director in 2009.
Q: How did you come to work for PAAR?
I ended up at PAAR initially as its development director and later became the executive director in 2009. PAAR has a very important mission and I was drawn to work that “fed my spirit.” I was previously in the political world and really enjoyed working on campaigns. I wanted a little more control over my life, so I was looking for a change. PAAR is the most motivating place I have ever worked. The people here are incredible. The staff is second to none.
Q: What motivates you?
Staff and the resiliency of victims of all ages and genders, and the fact that we have a lot of work to do to truly end sexual violence. I am committed to the mission, and staff.
Q: What obstacles does PAAR face?
The issue of sexual violence – and its prevalence. When a White House task force came out with the number of incidents of sexual violence on college campuses, a lot of schools, and people in general, disputed them. Then, schools did their own surveys and realized, wow, these numbers either mirror what the task force showed – which is 1 out of 5 women – or their numbers were actually higher.
With regard to overcoming obstacles, victim blaming.
It’s 2016, everybody. It’s time to stop looking at “what the victim did wrong” and in reality – what did that rapist do?
Q: What’s next for PAAR?
Z Brand will soon be revamping our website. We will continue our public awareness campaigns and we will soon offer offering therapeutic services in satellite offices in more remote areas of the county and this will start hopefully in January.
Q: What do you love about working with Z Brand?
The collaborative, personal nature of the entire team. You guys are awesome.
Q: What is your favorite aspect of working for PAAR?
Working with staff and really knowing that our work has impact, not only on those who seek our services, but on this community.
Q: What are you most proud of?
Overseeing an agency where every staff member is dedicated to the clients we serve; the mission of the agency, and knowing our work has meaning beyond our walls.
Q: What’s your favorite food?
Pizza of any kind.
Q: What’s your favorite band?
I am a giant Latin jazz aficionado and Latin music of all forms.
Q: What is your favorite quote?
